Right after the conference sessions, discover Hanoi by night. Stroll through the famous 36 ancient streets of the Old Quarter, where each guild street was once named after the craft it produced for the royal Thang Long Citadel, and soak up the buzzing atmosphere around Hoan Kiem Lake.

Enjoy dinner at a carefully selected local restaurant, then take your seat at the iconic Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre for a 50-minute show of Vietnam's unique traditional art: puppets gliding over water, live folk music and tales of heroes, myths and village life.

Itinerary

• 18:00After the conference sessions, meet in the Meliá Hotel Hanoi lobby (conference venue).
• 18:05Our guide and driver take you to the Old Quarter for a leisurely walk through the 36 ancient streets.
• 19:30Dinner at a selected local restaurant – authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
• 20:30Continue to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre near Hoan Kiem Lake.
• 21:00Water puppet show (50 minutes), with traditional folk music.

Bai Dinh – Trang An – Mua Cave

Begin at Bai Dinh, the largest pagoda complex in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, with its 500 stone Arhat statues and giant bronze bells of up to 36 tons.

Then board a traditional sampan through the Trang An Grottoes, past caves, temples and limestone peaks, and finish with the climb up Ngoa Long Mountain at Mua Cave for a sweeping view over the rice valley.

Itinerary

• 07:00Meet your guide at the meeting point (07:00 – 07:45) and travel about 110 km through the countryside, with a short break on the way.
• 10:00Bai Dinh Pagoda: 500 Arhat statues, two great bronze bells (27 and 36 tons), the thousand-armed Quan Yin statue and the Gautama Buddha statue.
• 12:00Lunch with local cuisine.
• 13:30Trang An Grottoes by sampan through Lam, Vang, Dai and Thanh Truot caves, passing Cao Son, Suoi Tien and Vu Lam temples.

Duong Lam Ancient Village & Son Tay Tour

About 45 km west of Hanoi, Duong Lam is a "museum of laterite" with 956 ancient houses, some up to 400 years old. It is the only village in Vietnam that gave the country two kings, and it was recognised as a national relic in 2005.

Walk the village paths to Mia Pagoda, the local market and the temples of King Ngo Quyen and King Phung Hung, meet families in their ancestral homes, enjoy lunch at a local home, then visit the laterite Son Tay Ancient Citadel.

• 08:30Meet your guide and drive to Duong Lam Village in Son Tay town.
